Request

We are undertaking a Phase I Desk Study at the site known as 'Rapleys Field, Pirbright GU24 0LT'.

As part of the Phase I Desk Study I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act to enquire if the council hold any records which may assist in modelling the contamination risks associated with this site within a 250m radius, including:

The history of the site and any adjoining areas;

Review of any previous desk study or site investigation information held for the site;

The proximity of waste disposal sites;

Petroleum licenses;

The potential for the site to have been affected by UXO etc?

Response

Thank you for your recent request under the Freedom of Information Act.

Please find the answers to your queries below:

The only site with known history of contaminative use is the existing Volvo garage to the east of the subject property.

Planning history indicates that the site operated as a services station from the early 1950s as Clarkes Garages and later as Romans of Woking. From the planning history it can be concluded that the petrol station was operational till the early 1970s. It is not clear when it stopped operating.

This department do not have any records of ground investigation on the site or in proximity. This department also do not hold records such as petroleum licenses, potential UXOs etc. Please contact the Trading Standards for information on petroleum licenses. For UXO risk map, you may refer to Zetica UFO or other similar available maps.

I hope that this is of help. You have not been charged for this response. If you have any further queries, please log a contaminated land request (https://www.guildford.gov.uk/article/25085/Making-or-requesting-a-contaminated-land-enquiry). A fee of £109.50 will be payable for such request.

Yours sincerely,
