FOI release

Decision to decline a dog waste bin

Case reference FOI2018/01147

Published 15 October 2018

Request

Please could you send me a full report on the decision to decline a dog poo bin for the exit from the field along the A3 to the lane at the back of Pimms Row Cottages. I should like to know how this decision was arrived at and when and for how long the situation was apparently monitored.

Response

We don't hold or undertake a "full report on the decision to decline a bin", however we can confirm the area street cleaning supervisor checked the area and they highlighted a number of reasons not to place a bin here:

  • We no longer place dog bins, instead preferring to use dual use litter and dog bins.
  • The location showed no significant issues of littering or dog fouling.
  • The location was very close to residential properties and the footpath was not particularly wide in the area. Therefore, even if a bin were acceptable to other residents in the area, a bin may cause some pedestrians access issues.
  • There are bins and dog bins available nearby, for example in the Sutherland Memorial Park.

We do encourage direct interaction between our staff and members of the public on these sorts of issues, and should you wish to discuss this further over the phone or in person the supervisor would be happy to make contact. If so please can you forward your details as well as availability and preference for contact method (phone/in person) to customer services and ask for them to be passed on to the Council's Waste and Street Scene Inspector.
