Is your local authority engaging in direct housing provision and to what extent is their involvement?
Yes, we have a development team that delivers a new build housing programme redeveloping Council owned sites.
Through which method(s) is your local authority engaging in direct housing provision?
Traditional construction methods in partnership with a construction provider.
Why is your local authority engaging in direct housing provision? What are your motivations?
To increase the delivery of new affordable housing.
What types of housing tenures is your local authority producing and in what numbers?
We are building homes for social rent. We built 12 homes in 2018/19 and have 36 expected to be completed this year 19/20.
What is preventing your local authority from building more homes?
The team is small and has only been developing for a few years so we are increasing capacity and the development programme year on year.
What more can be implemented to encourage your local authority to build more homes?
More land opportunities. The opportunity to utilise public sector land not owned by the local authority such as land owned by health services or the Ministry of Defence.
What is your local authority's long-term plan in respect of direct housing provision?
To continue to increase our role in directly providing new affordable housing.
