Homelessness - storage of possessions
Case reference FOI2018/00526
Published 9 November 2018
Request
When a household becomes homeless do you charge them a fee for storing their possessions? If so, can you provide a full breakdown of fees charged for this service to the applicant?
Response
We do not have set charges for storage. Information on available storage solutions in the area are given to any household requiring storage. The homeless household enters/negotiates a contract with the storage company. We will pay a deposit and contribution by paying the first month's rent and insurance for damage or non-payment.
A lot of the time people find what is convenient for them and then ask for our backing. It depends on the company they find.
Households by entering an agreement direct have total control and access to their possessions and security provided.
