Response
We have considered your request for information regarding the number of new pitches for Gypsy and Traveller encampments.
- The number of new pitches for Gypsy and Traveller encampments given planning permission by your local authority in each financial year from 2012/13 to 2016/17.

The number of new pitches granted permanent planning permission for the period covering 17 June 2012 to 27 January 2017 is 11 public pitches and 13 private pitches. Since that time 1 additional private pitch has been granted permanent planning permission at appeal.
- Any estimate for the need for new pitches in your local authority made during this period.

The Traveller Accommodation Assessment 2012 (now superseded) identified the need for 73 pitches over the period 2012-2027.

The Traveller Accommodation Assessment (TAA) 2017 identifies the need for 4 pitches for travellers meeting the Planning Policy for Traveller Sites (PPTS) definition of a traveller and 8 pitches for travellers of unknown planning status over the period of 2017-2034. The TAA also identified the need for 41 pitches for Gypsies and Travellers who don't meet the Planning Policy for Traveller Sites definition.

There are a total of 59 new pitches identified in site allocations in the Submission Local Plan 2017. These pitches will help meet the accommodation needs of travellers that do meet the Planning Policy for Travellers definition of a traveller, settled travellers who don't meet the Planning Policy for Travellers definition and those travellers of unknown planning status.
