Case reference FOI2025/01157

Request

In accordance with the provisions specified within the above Act I hereby request the following information. All information requested relates to Business Rates.

Does the Billing Authority automatically award Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Relief in each new rate year or is reapplication required?

Response

You asked whether the Billing Authority automatically awards Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Relief in each new year or if reapplication is required.

The Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Relief Scheme has been extended by the government each year, which allows an eligible ratepayer to continue to qualify based on their previous entitlement, and subject to declarations that in accepting relief under the scheme they will not exceed the annual cash cap or the Subsidy Allowance limits.

In cases that relief had not been previously applied, we will always ask for the required declarations regarding cash caps and Subsidy Allowance to be made by an applicant before we consider applying relief under the scheme.
